Learning AHOY!
Learning Ahoy is an educational resource created by Lagan Boat Company (N.I.) Ltd to facilitate school field trips to the River Lagan and to enrich the learning experience for pupils in the increasing number of schools successfully using the boat trips as an innovative educational tool.
Whilst all the information on this site is specific to the River Lagan and the boat tours, it also contains links to other resources which are relevant to subject areas dealt with during the boat trip.

The colour worksheets devised, both for use on board the 'Joyce Too' and as follow up class exercises, are tailored to relate to the General Learning Areas, the Subject Strands, the Curriculum Objectives and their corresponding Key Elements, thus encouraging students to think creatively and develop ideas in a much broader sense and with more flexibility.
The worksheets and the projects suggested on the website, have been carefully and expertly devised by our educational consultant who actually contributed to the development of the new curriculum and thus has a keen understanding of the issues involved and opportunities created.
In addition to the pupil's worksheets we supply, for teachers, a rationale on how the questions and ideas link to the Curriculum Review.
The two separate boat trips on offer are geared towards providing a stimulating learning experience for students...
- The Titanic Tour takes in Belfast Harbour with its important shipping related industries and the shipyards of Harland & Wolff where, of course, the world's most famous luxury liner RMS Titanic was designed, built and launched.
- The River Lagan Tour takes in the upper reaches of the river from the Lagan Weir to Stranmillis Weir and deals with a number of study areas which you will find colour coded on this website. The construction of the Lagan Weir in 1994, for example, has transformed the upper reaches of the river and had a huge impact on the development and uses of both the river and its environs.
We should very much like to encourage any additional input and suggestions from schools and teachers using our tours on how they might be developed further to suit your specific requirements.
